A pesquisadora Dra.

UnB UNESCO Chair takes part in LACLO 2026 in Rio de Janeiro

The UNESCO Chair in Open Education and Technologies for the Common Good at the University of Brasília (UnB) took part in LACLO 2026, the 21st Latin American Conference on Learning Technologies, held from October 13 to 16 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Chair was represented by researcher Dr. Djaine Damiati and by Felipe Vasco, a student fellow in the Hewlett Fellows project.

Both were part of the team of facilitators for Workshop 3, “OER Expedition: Crossing the Arid Territories,” held on October 16 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The workshop was a collaboration among three UNESCO Chairs: the UNESCO Chair in Open Education at the Universidad de la República (UdelaR, Uruguay), the UNESCO Chair on Scalable Digital Education for All at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M, Spain) and the UNESCO Chair in Open Education and Technologies for the Common Good at UnB.

The in-person workshop addressed some of the most challenging topics in open education: quality, sustainability, interoperability, accessibility, policy and artificial intelligence. It followed an expedition narrative across six territories. In each one, participants worked together to solve a challenge that highlighted the real tensions of the topic. At the end of the journey, the group co-created an open educational resource.

Taking part in LACLO 2026 strengthens the Chair’s ties with Latin American and Ibero-American research networks and broadens the conversation on the challenges and possibilities of open education in the region.
